I am proud to launch an official website and social media platforms for TUBSAN Center in Southwest State of Somalia for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) of the Southwest State of Somalia. Since the establishment of TUBSAN Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (TC-P/CVE) in November 2023, the Center has made a meticulous and tireless dedication to accomplish enormous strides in the institutional and organizational development of TUBSAN Center and as well as spearheading the consolidation of its mandated activities in addressing the complex challenges posed by the violent extremism in Southwest State of Somalia. Our dedication to fostering inclusivity, transparency, and innovation in our approach to creating conductive and collaborative environment that ensures strengthening our internal controls and governance mechanisms required for effective and efficient functioning of the Center.
Launching this website and social media platforms for TUBSAN Center in Southwest State of Somalia, with the support of Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) through the Rural Education and Agriculture Development Organization (READO), is crucial for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism by:
- fostering Community Engagement through Online Platforms for engaging with the Somali community, raising awareness about the dangers of violent extremism, and promoting community resilience.
- Sharing Information through this website and social media to enable rapid and widespread sharing of information on P/CVE efforts, initiatives, and success stories, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.
- Enhance awareness and education activities through the social media platforms to allow for the dissemination of educational content, resources, and narratives that counter extremist ideologies, helping to build awareness and understanding among the population.
- Counterpropaganda through the social media to enable rapid response to extremist propaganda, allowing for the dissemination of counter-narratives and challenging false ideologies.
- Report back to the community through this website and social media and use these platforms as channels for anonymous reporting, allowing community members to share information about potential extremist activities with relevant authorities.
- Strengthen our international collaboration and partnership with various local, regional and international partners, promote accountability and transparency, enabling Southwest State of Somalia to benefit from global expertise and resources in P/CVE.
- Engage our youth online, given the significant youth population in Somalia, the website and social media platforms will empower young people to resist extremist influences and contribute positively to their communities and keep them vigilant about the catastrophic impacts of the violent extremism and radicalization.
- Advocate for Policy change and innovations using this website and provide a space for engaging policymakers and influence public opinion.
- Mobilize Resource and attract international donors and organizations, fostering support and resources for P/CVE programs in Somalia.
- Allow for real-time monitoring of P/CVE activities, helping stakeholders assess the impact of interventions and adjust strategies based on emerging trends and challenges.
TUBSAN Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (TC-P/CVE) in Southwest State of Somalia intends to adopt a Strategic Communications Plan that promotes social cohesion and unit for ‘whole-of-government’ and ‘whole-of-society’ approaches in addressing the drivers of the violent extremism and radicalization through a comprehensive, a multi-dimensional and coordinated approach to operationalize the mandate given to TUBSAN Center by implementing strategies and plans for preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism.
TUBSAN Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (TC-P/CVE) employs soft operations approach that encompasses shaping context-specific policies and strategies to promote governance models that actively involve diverse voices in decision-making processes to ensure policies align with the needs and values of the community, enhancing community resilience, and promote stability in Southwest State of Somalia.
In collaboration with our development and humanitarian partners in Southwest State of Somalia, TC-P/CVE envisions to adopt a State-level Strategic Plan that shall offer strategic guidance and pathways for change to our strategic interventions of preventing and countering violent extremism and promote locally-driven solutions to our local problems. This State-level Strategic Plan will be a crucial for promoting national security and stability through a multifaceted and inclusive approach under the strategic and technical directions of the Southwest State President, H.E. Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftgareen).
Our plan to adopt Context-specific P/CVE Strategic Plan and Action Plan, aligned with the national, regional, and global frameworks, is a unique strategic opportunity for Southwest State of Somalia to contribute to the prevention and countering of violence extremism and also addressing the drivers of violent extremism and issues of radicalizations through comprehensive approaches such as Community engagement and empowerment, early warning and early response interventions, collaboration and coordination, strategic communications, promotion of desertion, defection, disengagement, rehabilitation and reintegration, and research, learning, and innovations to exemplify our commitment to locally-driven solutions in addressing the complex challenges of violent extremism.
